Republicans React to O’Malley’s Gun Law Signature

ANNAPOLIS – Diana Waterman, Chair of the Maryland Republican Party made the following statement regarding Governor Martin O’Malley’s signature to Senate Bill 281 to infringe on the Second Amendment rights of all Marylanders. She said, “Cracking down on crime is clearly not part of Martin O'Malley's presidential resume’. Together with the Democrats in Annapolis, O'Malley has shamefully politicized the tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut in order to advance his radical agenda and political aspirations. This legislation will do nothing to curb the effects of gun violence in Maryland, but instead only makes it even more difficult for law-abiding citizens to exercise their Second Amendment rights.”

Mrs. Waterman continued, “While other Governors like Bob McDonnell of Virginia and Tom Corbett of Pennsylvania and their Legislatures are working to reform state government, Martin O'Malley, Mike Miller, Mike Busch, and the Democrat Legislators in Annapolis have wasted the people’s time and money by imposing higher taxes, promoting government dependency, and assaulting the Second Amendment. Senate Bill 281 only punishes the law-abiding citizens of Maryland and puts power in the hands of criminals. This law is disgraceful and Republicans will continue to challenge the Democrats at every turn and make sure all of the voters remember next year.”

Business Leaders Rank Maryland

“Top 10 Worst for Business”

ANNAPOLIS – Diana Waterman, Chair of the Maryland Republican Party, made the following remarks regarding Chief Executive Magazine’s latest rankings (: http://chiefexecutive.net/10-worst-states-for-business-2013-slideshow)  for the best and worst states for businesses. She said, “These rankings are no shock to families who are struggling every day to keep a roof over their head. Maryland needs Republican leadership that will shed the burdensome taxes, high costs of regulation, and an unfriendly environment to job creators. Since Martin O’Malley took office, thousands of small businesses have left the state and Maryland is now home to only three Fortune 500 Companies.”

She concluded by saying, “If we want to turn Maryland around, it is unacceptable to rank at the bottom for business. It is time for a change and we are working very diligently across the state to find business-friendly candidates to challenge the Democrats in Annapolis."

According to the 9th annual report, “In the minds of most leaders, a state’s friendliness is closely aligned with its tax and regulatory regime. Similarly, workforce quality also measures the perceived cooperativeness of workers with management, as well as the people’s general work ethic and education attainment.”

The Top 10 best states are all led by Republican governors and 7 of the 10 bottom are led by Democratic governors. Under the leadership of Republican Governor Scott Walker, Wisconsin was ranked 41st in 2010, but ranked 17th in 2013 while Maryland dropped from 33rd to 41st.
