Maryland Republican Party Chairman Releases Statement on Governor Hogan's Veto of House Bill 1783
Annapolis, MD - Maryland Republican Party Chairman Dirk Haire has issued the following statement:
"Last week, Senators Kathy Klausmeier and Jim Mathias had a choice to make. To support our children or to vote how they were told to by party leadership. They made the wrong decision and stood against Governor Hogan and Comptroller Franchot. Senators Klausmeier and Mathias voted to support a backroom deal to give unelected bureaucrats and lobbyists control over billions in school construction funding.
Today, Governor Hogan protected the future of our kids by vetoing House Bill 1783.
Now, Senators Klausmeier and Mathias have another choice to make. We strongly encourage them to change their position and sustain the Governor's veto. Accountability and oversight of billions in school construction funding should always come before protecting the power of Mike Miller's political machine. Marylanders don't need puppets in Annapolis."
